Uzbekistan has developed the world’s first technology for banknotes paper production with addition of natural silk fibers

The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a patent for the invention of a manufacturing technology of security paper with natural silk fibers. It was developed together with specialists from the State Unitary Enterprise “Davlat Belgisi”, the association “Uzbekipaksanoat” and the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry.

According to the Central Bank, this technology for making paper with natural silk fibers adds enhanced protective properties to banknotes, securities and other documents. It was developed in Uzbekistan for the first time in the world.

This invention makes it possible to distinguish valuable paper from other types of paper, since natural silk fibers are added to its security elements.

During the manufacturing process, natural silk fibers are added to the paper pulp, and then it is impregnated with a fluorescent solution. When illuminated with ultraviolet rays, the silk protein acquires an enhanced dark color, thereby protecting the paper from fakes. As a result of adding natural silk of the same thickness to the composition of the paper, its strength increases several times.

This invention aroused great interest among specialists from international companies which are world leaders in production of banknotes, security documents and paper.
